Promises to earmark 112 acres within a month
A 30-bed hospital will come up at the Basar campus of the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), according to P.V. Raja Kumar, Vice-Chancellor of Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technologies (RGUKT). He said the facility formed a part of the development envisaged for the IIIT Basar to elevate it to the status of a premier institute.
350 acres sought
Prof. Raja Kumar urged Adilabad Collector P. Venkateswarlu on Friday to allocate about 350 acres along the existing campus to ensure speedy and proper development.
Assuring him of earmarking 112 acres within one month the Collector said, “As the IIIT stands to bring name and fame to the State and the district, the administration will do all that is required to develop the institute.”
The two top officials, IIIT Basar Director Rajendra Sahu and RGUKT Registrar S. Satyanarayana had met to discuss land acquisition. The institute, spread over 150 acres at present, would be insufficient if all the planned development was to take place, the Vice-Chancellor pointed out at the meeting.
The Collector impressed upon the IIIT officials to involve students in cultural activities. He also suggested instituting a counselling centre for girl students at the campus. Prof. Raja Kumar and Mr. Venkateswarlu later went on a tour of the different facilities on the IIIT campus. They visited the dormitories, kitchen and mess halls and the clinic. Adilabad District Medical and Health Officer M. Manikya Rao, was among those present.
