RGUKT Engineering Branches Information

:: Civil Engineering ::.

Introduction:
Civil Engineering is the oldest and the broadest engineering discipline with remarkable contructions from the ancient Harappan, Mohenjodaro, Egypt and the Mesopotamia to the latest three gorges Dam of China. Civil Engineers play a pivotal role in creating the man-made environment and protecting the natural environment. Modern constructions, skyscrapers, underground railways, gigantic malls and apartments are all result of civil engineer vision, planning and execution. Globalisation has made infrastructure sector boom in the country. Facilities like roads, ports and other modes of transport widened the scope of huge constructions. This has made a great demand for Civil engineers.

Civil Engineering course is offered by prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology, National institutes of Technology, BITS, Delhi College of Engineering, University of Roorkee and other prominent engineering colleges. In Andhra Pradesh, admission to the course is through EAMCET.

Course:
Strength of materials, building technology, surveying, building technology, structural analysis and design, building planning and design, management economics financial analysis, steel structure and design, concrete technology, water resource engineering, engineering geology, industrial waste and waste water management, ground implement technics, water shed management are studied as part of the four –year chemical engineering course.

Core subjects:
Suryeying, strength of materials, building technology, structural analysis and design, design of hydraulic structures, architecture and town planning.

Higher education:
After completing a B.Tech/B.E in civil engineering, higher education can be pursued in India as well as abroad. M.Tech specializations such as transportation systems, geotechnical engineering, structural engineering, remote sensing, hydraulic & water resourses, environmental engineering & management can be opted.

Job profiles:
A civil engineer mainly deals with design construction and maintenance of infrastructure such as buildings, bridges, roads, tunnels, dams, river & shipping lanes, industrial and power plants. Civil engineers usually work in sites.

Skills:
Interest in design and construction sector can fare well in the civil engineering field. One should have strong hold in maths and physics. One can grow higher in career with communication skills, teamwork and management skills.

Top companies:
Civil engineers have plentiful opportunities in public sector companies.
Recruitment is done in panchayat raj department, roads and buildings, housing department, irrigation department etc. Central government organizations like DMRC, RITES,National Disaster management Board also provide jobs for civil engineers. In the private sector, jayee , reliance Infra, L&T(ECC), and DLF offer job openings for the civil engineers.

Salary:
Starting salary for a civil engineering graduate is around 15,000 per month. With experience and skills one can get 40000 within four to five years.

Advice:
A student choosing the civil engineering branch must have analyzing capacity and creative spirit. With proper training and experience they can build a great career. But a student’s dream of a white collar job doesnt fulfill cent percent, as the civil engineering job demands a field work. Sustaining hard work can make wonders in the career of a civil engineer.

Introduction :

Electronics, particularly computer usage coupled with recent space age, has by this time already crept into every sphere of human activities. Every industry, institution & organization feels the need for an Electronics Engineer. Today’s world is very much for and of the Electronics & Communication Engineers. Advanced countries in the world have gone to such depths of Electronics today that an Electronics Engineer is indispensable in every front.

Opportunity in this highly sophisticated and advanced branch of engineering is just immense. Electronics is now a part of our every day life, from our pocket FM radio to televisions, computers, mobile phones and even the high-end satellites that process and send images.

Definition:
Electronics and communication engineering is an engineering discipline which uses the scientific knowledge of the behavior and effects of electrons to develop components, devices, systems, or equipment that uses electricity as part of its driving force. The engineering field encompasses many subfields including those that deal with power, instrumentation engineering, telecommunications, semiconductor circuit design, and many others.

Core subjects:
Electromagnets, electronics, electrical circuits and machines, signals and systems, digital signal processing, microprocessors and embedded systems, communications systems, optical systems and VLSI.

HIGHER EDUCATION:
After completing Btech/B.E, students can opt for M.tech/M.S in various subjects such as fiber optics and light waves, micro electronics &VLSI design, RF and microwaves, telecommunication systems, visual information and embedded systems.

Job prospects:
There are plenty of jobs for skilled electronics engineers with post secondary qualifications. An electronics engineer can get a job in the Central Government, State Governments and their sponsored corporations in public enterprises and the private organizations like All India Radio, Indian Telephone Industries, MTNL, AIR, Civil Aviation Department; Post and Telegraph Department; Co-ordination Department, National Physical Laboratory, Bharat Electronics Limited, Development Centers in various States etc. dealing in manufacture, sales and services of electronics consumer goods and appliances. Electronics engineers are also absorbed into the entertainment, transmission industry, research establishments, and defence. They can also take up teaching and research in one of the many engineering colleges in India or abroad.

Top recruiters:
PSUs such as BEL, DRMC and MNCs such as Siemens, Texas instruments, Intel, Nvidia, Philips electronics, Motorola, Samsung and Flextronics. DRDO, ISRO and IT companies like Infosys, TCS, Wipro, Accenture, HCL Technologies and Tech Mahindra also recruit Electronic engineers.

Pay:
Earnings of an electronic engineer vary with market demand and among organisations. Working experience, qualifications, ability are important factors in determining the pay level. The trainee engineer earns Rs 20,000- 30,000 per month. A middle level technical professional gets Rs 70,000- 80,000 a month. A senior manager earns Rs 1.5 lakh a month.
